This goes into the "interesting vs. valuable" bucket. Distant planets are interesting, but they provide no value to us today on this planet. Exploring the deep sea shows us things that affect us today and how we affect planet we live on. Maybe if we paid more attention to the sea we wouldn't be fucking the planet up so much.
