Your Profile: Public vs. Private

DailyDebates has two views of your account: your own private profile, and the public profile other people see when they click your handle.

Your private profile (/profile)

Only you can see this page, and only while signed in. From here you can:

• Set or change your display handle
• View your activity calendar
• See karma badges you've earned
• Choose your color theme
• Sign out

Your public profile (/users/{"{id}"})

This is what other members see when they click your handle on a post. It shows a smaller, read-only subset of your information:

• Your display handle
• Your karma, broken down by facet

It does not show your email address, activity calendar, or theme preference - those stay private to you.

Why the difference?

The public profile exists so other members can see the track record behind an argument - how the community has generally assessed your posts - without exposing anything you haven't chosen to make public, like your handle. Everything else about how you use the site stays on your private profile.
